When they were out of sight we could pretend we were safe, but now that we must look upon their damaged visages...we realize it is too late.

There were depictions, crude etchings in dirt of the Casket Land that gave way to sweeping brushstrokes of blood (or worse) against the planks of ferries run aground in the Mire. There is no more running from the Swamp and the monsters that drive it forward. 

Their bodies collapse and degrade, that Brume eats their skin, don't ya know? But their eyes...they never lose that fanatical shine.
